Tonight we're going to revisit the Helen's Hill Breachley Block Chardonnay & Helen's Hill Long Walk Pinot Noir

Helen's Hill Estate is 100% family owned and their drive is to run a winery that carefully balances traditional values and modern efficiency to make exceptional cool climate wines.

Winemaker Scott McCarthy has been surrounded or working with wine his entire life - he joined Yalumba after 10 years in the Barossa then had a stint in Napa Valley (US) and Loire Valley & Languedoc (France) as well as Marlborough (NZ) - we guess that's where he started to dig cold climate winemaking - hence the Yarra Valley?

Anyway - great wines - worth a look in...

Friday 31st March 2017 @ 5pm

Two of our favourites on show tonight from the awesome estate of Woodlands (Margaret River)

Established in 1973 within the famed sub-region of Wilyabrup in Margaret River. Woodlands is a 10 hectare oasis of brilliance and crafting that pays homage to the great vineyards of Bordeaux that is still family owned.

These days you can pay top dollar for Margaret River wines - these two are excellent value at a reasonable price.

Definitely worth a taste today if you're not familiar with them.

Woodlands Wilyabrup Valley Chardonnay
2016

A very muscular and powerful wine, the nose displays an array of orchard fruits (apricot, peach, nectarine) combined with toasty French oak notes.

The palate follows the lead, mirroring the flavours of the nose and finishing with lingering fruit and natural acidity.

Woodlands Cabernet Franc Merlot
2014

Intense crimson in colour, the nose is bright and aromatic- showing an array of red berry fruits.

The palate is playful and energetic, with lovely lifted primary Cabernet Franc characters of briar patch and raspberry combining with blackcurrant from the Merlot and a touch of white spice from the Malbec.

The finish is fine, with bright acidity and vibrancy.

Friday 24th March 2017 @ 5pm

Sometimes you just need a good value wine that is a no brainer.

So tonight's tasting is a couple that should fit that mould perfectly...

Three Ponds Chardonnay
2015

Full, rich & creamy palate that is still clean with good acidity and length.

If you like Chardonnay and prefer the buttery type - then this is for you!

Round Two Barossa Valley Shiraz
2015

A great nose comes out punching with lefts and rights of plum and blackberry. Light jabs of asian spice, licorice and fruitcake tussle the bouquet but not to rough it up.

The palate weighs in with a smooth yet unadulterated mouthfeel of perfectly ripe fruit and Barossan earth are present yet feint to the overall pleasing power off the supple tannic balance and knockdown acid structure.

This wine is on the button.

Friday 17th March 2017 @ 5pm

Even though we have our big Rose Heaven festival tomorrow and it's bucketing down outside, we just can't stop drinking the Coeur Clementine Rose and so we'll be showing it again tonight!

And haven't the greatest range of Pinot Noir in East Sydney we couldn't go past showing the awesome Toolangi Pinot Noir

Yet another great start to the weekend begins at our store tasting tonight!

Coeur Clementine Provencal Rose
2015

Sick of paying through the teeth for high-quality, "everyday" Provençal rosé?

Firm, crisp and balanced, it finishes dry and tangy with white pepper and floral notes and lovely length.

A wine of pleasure.

A wine for drinking rather than thinking.

Toolangi Pinot Noir
2014

Made at Coldstream Hills, from Toolangi's estate-grown fruit, the 2014 entry-level Pinot is another fine example from an estate that can't put a foot wrong at the moment.

Subtle, delicate and palate dry with slight oaky creamy-fruit with fruit notes of white nectarine and peach with a note of golden crunchy apple and jasmine tea and creamy nuts on the finish.

A Boy with Fruit Chardonnay
2014

The nose has notes of dried stone fruit, mango, honey and acacia flower nectar.

The palate comes alive with only subtle fruit notes of apricot, baked apple, nougat and spice also has gentle savoury notes of sweet-sappy-tree bark, Chinese jasmine tea and nuts.

A Boy with Fruit Number 2

Notes of blueberry, raspberry, white flowers and floral nectar cascade in a wash over your palate, ending with a signature Asian spice and ripe olive oil character from the stem that supports the delicate fruit structure.

Friday 3rd March 2017 @ 5pm

The weather is very mixed this weekend so for tonight's tasting we will be mixing it up as well.

Still in denial that Summer is officially over, the warmth is allowing us to still enjoy our newest Provencal Rose.

And for those who are wanting something more solid, we are pouring what may be one of the best Australian cool climate Shiraz we have come across - a good drop to cellar for a while - stock for this wine will not last long - this Shiraz is absolutely stunning!

Luke Lambert Syrah

One of the better cool climate Shiraz we have seen from Australia - reminds us very much of Northern Rhone!

Luke Lambert is a genius!

A wine of pleasure.

A wine for drinking rather than thinking.

Friday 24th February 2017 @ 5pm

We're very excited to have the new Eloquesta vintage now in store!

This is one of our most popular wines and has been for many years now - and tonight we will be showing off the new vintage after a small drought for this product since the last vintage ran out.

The wine whisperer (wine maker) Stuart Olsen will also be showing his spectacular Aromatic White which is being poured and some know local wine bars with great success.

Eloquesta Shiraz Petit Verdot
2014

One of our favourite wines - that's why it has been placed as the first wine displayed when entering the shop!

Another stunning Eloquesta vintage and we believe this will be even more popular than the other vintages.

Deep in purple and very perfumed.  Violets, musk and blueberries on the nose is what you get upfront, opening further with decanting - leading to a very juicy and fleshy blackfruited palate with firm acid and line of tannins that linger.

Stuart Olsen (winemaker) is a genius!

A Boy with Fruit Aromatic White Blend
2016

A Boy with Fruit Aromatic White Blendhas a full fruit ripeness with great extract and elevated perfume - the rich flavour lingers with fresh acidic line on the finish.

Rich, lush, creamy and fruit driven but dry with notes of crushed pine cone, seaspray, passionfruit along with subtle notes of apricot, green apple, tangerine, flower nectar and lemon confection.

One of our favourite wines - that's why it has been placed as the first wine displayed when entering the shop!

This wine is absolutely stunning.

Friday 27th May 2016 @ 5pm

Sometimes you just have to stretch your palate a little - and what better way than from countries that have been making this fancy grape juice for a while!

Apparently the French have been making wine for at least 2600 years but they say the Spanish have beat them to the game having started 3000BC!

Let's see if they know what they are doing...

Gran Coronas Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva
2010

Awesome winter warmer!

Great aromatic complexity with notes of spices (black pepper, clove) set against undertones of woodland undergrowth and dry leaves.

Mature and jammy on the palate, with well-structured tannins and good concentration.

A wine defined by velvety elegance.

Brumont Gros Manseng Sauvignon Blanc
2014

Combines the exotic aromatics and richness and texture of the Gros Manseng with the fresh acidity and structure of Sauvignon blanc. Very attractive with good intensity of flavor and excellent palate feel. Remarkable quality and value for a wine of this level. Very highly recommended.

Friday 20th May 2016 @ 5pm

Last week's Portsea Pinot Gris went down very well - but it looks like the weather has changed and so we'll be showing one of their reds - only appropriate right!

And we're clearing the Lost Valley Riesling stock - so let's have a look at that too.

Lost Valley Riesling
2010

What an easy drinking style Riesling this is. Bold in it's approach with fresh fruit upfront. A very pleasing mouthfeel with hints of citrus and minerality that entwine nicely. The finish is zingy and has a smoothness that any punter will find enticing. Drink this now and for the next 2 years. Well worth a try to see how good a quality yet cheap well crafted Riesling can be like.

Portsea Mornington Peninsula Tempranillo
2013

Portsea Estate's unique single vineyard Tempranillo displays delicate forest floor perfume with hints of leather and spicy oak.

The palate is round with fine textured tannins making it the perfect food accompaniment.

Friday 13th May 2016 @ 5pm

Tonight we simply tasting a couple awesome wines - a cool climate pinot gris that has some elegance (there are some very flabby gris out there) and for the cooler evening a great red blend from the legendary Larry Cherubino.

Portsea Mornington Peninsula Pinot Gris
2015

The Portsea Pinot Noir has been one of our most popular - so we thought we'd have a look at the Pinot Gris - wow, awesome!

Portsea Estate is the last of the vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula - it certainly gets some of the weather from the area which can only do good for the wine by the taste of things.

Lemon, lime, citrus rind, freshly sliced apple, nuanced barrel ferment characteristics.

Fresh and focused acidity balanced with a fine mid palate texture.

Larry Cherubino ad Hoc Avant Gardening Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec
2014

An ultra-vibrant medium bodied wine with a bouquet of violets with an earthy-graphite nose.

Cedary tannins woven through the cassis and plum of the long palate.

Violets from the Malbec, minerality from the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Friday 6th May 2016 @ 5pm

If you're a champagne lover and haven't tried Alfred Gratien you haven't lived! Live tonight @ 5pm at your local cellar door...

Alfred Gratien Cuvee Brut Classique NV

A wonderful bouquet of citrus fruits, mangos, peaches and apricots helps you instantly understand the quality of this champagne.

The palate has a wonderful balance of aromatic strength and the freshness of exotic fruits.

Alfred Gratien Rose

One of our favourite French Rosé Champagne!

The Alfred Gratien style is clearly revealed.

A refined blend where the elegance of chardonnay and the fruity notes of Pinot Meunier mingle with delicacy.

Friday 29th April 2016 @ 5pm

This tasting is about two italian grape varieties - grown and made in Australian.

Cortese is the grape involved with Gavi wines from Italy - and this little beauty was on some of the top restaurant wine lists for quite some time! And it's got some age in there too - very tasty and awesome price.

Unfortunately we hear that this is the last of it from this winery.

And the sangiovese - wow - what a wine. Dan (the boss) got a little star struck meeting William Downie (wine maker) - come in and see if the boss knows what he's talking about!

Lost Valley Cortese
2010

A delicate and exquisite taste and aroma of flora , pear, spice and fresh straw.

Wonderful accompaniment to delicate white meats such as Veal, pork, chicken and turkey. Also delightful with Risottos, Cheese platters, and all assertive Seafood but especially Oysters, Game fish and Crustaceans.

Excellent with all Chinese food. Lost Valley is unique in Australia for growing Cortese.

Save Our Souls Yarra Valley Sangiovese
2015

Perhaps the best Sangiovese we have tried from Australia - certainly at the top!  And one of our favourite wine labels!

And made by one of our favourite Australian wine makers - William Downie with his mate Jason Searle who has some nice names behind him as well!

Beautiful black fruit flavours with subtle rose petals and earth tones - a stunning wine!

Friday 22nd April 2016 @ 5pm

Tasting up to 100 wines (or more) per week in search of the best value - and every now and then we come accross an absolute gem. We found this with C2 - a very clean low intervention sangiovese from SA.

And to complete the line up we have the 3rd of the Grosset rieslings on show - the last two were superb and we're not going to be disappointed in this one either!

Grosset Alea Riesling
2015

With its first vintage in 2012, 'Alea' is the most recent of the Grosset rieslings.

The result of three years of painstaking experimentation in the vineyard, it is made in the style of the rieslings of Germany and Austria.

Grosset Alea Riesling is a delicate, fine riesling suited to being consumed alongside some robust spicy flavours: stir-fried prawns with Asian vegetables, deep-fried calamari with a Thai salad, or mildly spicy Indian curries.

C2 Sangiovese
2015

Wow - what an awesome example of quality sangiovese from Adelaide Hills.

This wine appears to have been made with minimal intervention - 100% whole bunch ferment, basket pressed, gravity fed, unfiltered.

Chris (winemaker) has labelled this "Sangiovese inspired by Pinot Noir"

Friday 15th April 2016 @ 5pm

Let's just say live is too short to drink bad wine - so tonight let's enjoy a brilliant bottle of Grosset Riesling - superb!

And this Sunday is World Malbec Day so let's also enjoy one of our favourite and better known Malbec's from Archaval Ferrer

Now that's not a bad little start to the weekend!

Grosset Springvale Riesling
2015

Attractive lime and lemon blossom aromas with an underlying chalky minerality; a supple mid-palate yet tight and fine, leading to an expressive finish that is vibrant, crisp and has wonderful length.

Grosset Springvale Riesling is neatly balanced, minerally and delightfully dry.

Perfect with grilled calamari, white fish or roast chicken salad.

Achaval Ferrer Mendoza Malbec
2014

This Malbec is intense and pure - no wonder this vineyard has such a reknowned reputation!

It has hints of violet aromas, and is full of spices and fresh red fruits that blow out all over the nose, setting a pattern of how complex and natural a Malbec can be.

Round and harmonious tannins colour the palate with intense fruits, and a balanced acidity calls for another glass

Friday 8th April 2016 @ 5pm

Wines from Margaret River, Adelaide Hills & Frankland River at these prices! Brilliant.

We don't usually go for a full range of products from the same producer - these four wines changed our mind on this occasion, although we'll let you decide if they stay.

Flinders Bay Humpback Reserve Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris
2015

The fruit was grown in the northern Adelaide Hills, from a very good vintage.

Multiple small batches were harvested in the cool of the night, and immediately crushed.

This is important for this variety, as it avoids extended skin contact, ensuring a crisp, fresh wine.

Its style is midway between the Gris and Grigio wines. We think the wine is a fine example of the variety, nailing it in both vineyard and winery.

Flinders Bay Humpback Reserve Margaret River Chardonnay
2015

This Chardonnay 2015 is made from 100% estate grown Chardonnay off the Karridale vineyard.

Our climate, viticulture and low cropping levels produce intensely flavoured fruit, and barrel fermentation in new French oak creates a wine with complexity and finesse.

Flinders Bay Humpback Reserve Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon
2014

Margaret River is famous for it's Cabernet and this shows how good it can be without destroying the budget!

The fruit for this wines comes from Witchcliffe, Osmington and Yelverton regions of Margaret River in a very good year.

Flinders Bay Humpback Reserve Mt Barker Riesling
2014

Grown in Western Australia's Frankland region where the continental climate has cool nights, essential for Riesling.

This is a lovely Riesling, with pronounced citric flavours. There are some floral and mineral notes and silkiness in the mouth.

Friday 1st April 2016 @ 5pm

A massive 4 day week this week - this weekend is going to feel pretty short after the last one.

So what to do? Let's hang out with two of our fav's!

Let's grab our fun and elegant rose from the old world and throw in our mate pinot from the new world - this should be fun! Especially as we can't decide whether the warm days are over quite yet or not!

Chateau Riotor Cotes de Provence Rose
2015

This rose is absolutely delicious - rich and flavoursome. A very delicate and aromatic wine with lots of freshness. Hints of berries, redcurrant and wild starwberry, exotic fruits, lychee, as well as very ripe pears and melon. And a gorgeous colour - think rose petals with a light pearly shade. There is no other rose like this one!

Amisfield Pinot Noir
2013

A wine expressive of its vintage with restrained fruit presence and delicate silky tannins underpinned with a vibrant acidity.

The aromas of bright red fruit and hints of cake spice is alluring and measured against its persuasive length on the palate.

Drink now or in four to five years.

Friday 18th March 2016 @ 5pm

The French and the American - not a usual mix!

Here we have another two wines introduced to us by one of our regular clients - and what fantastic prices!

We'd all love to be drinking wines worth hundreds every night of the week - but sometimes this isn't appropriate - I think we have a solution...

Fat Bastard Chardonnay
2013

This Californian chardonnay is rich with complex aromas of vanilla and honeysuckle.

On the palate, this wine has a full body with an eruption of tropical fruit flavors that develop into a long, toasty finish.

Fat Bastard Pinot Noir
2014

FAT bastard Pinot Noir is a brilliant expression the terroir of the vineyard - not Burgundy but further South.

We're talking relatively high vineyards with perfect temperate climate - great for Pinot Noir helping product good aroma and colour development.

Intense, cherry red in color with fruit-forward flavors of crushed strawberry and wild raspberry followed by delicate tannins and a long, smooth finish.

Friday 11th March 2016 @ 5pm

Two of our most popular wines.

The Bunnamagoo Chardonnay has been one of our most popular white wines since we took over the store many many years ago - it was huges for years before then!

The new kid on the block, Molino has getting more popular as people realise that this little drop punches way above it's price range! And it's not too heavy for this steamy weather we're experiencing now.

We're going to label these two wines as 'social' wines

Bunnamagoo Chardonnay
2014

OUR BIGGEST SELLING CHARDONNAY!

Medium-bodied with fresh white stonefruit characters, a supple and creamy mid-palate with elegant acidity followed by fine toast and French oak nuances.

A beautiful chardonnay that is medium-bodied with fresh white stone fruit characters, a supple and creamy mid-palate with elegant acidity.

Molino Loco Monastrell
2013

Of a deep and vibrant cherry-red colour, it boasts intense aromas of red ripe fruit (plum and cherries) on an elegant flowery background.

Fresh, with beautiful fruitiness and round soft tannins, it shows as a very easy-drinking and balanced red with a well intergrated oak touch.

One of more popular wines - and particularly awesome at this price!

Friday 4th March 2016 @ 5pm

They say spring is going to be with us until the end of March - that's more BBQ's and socialising in this brilliant weather!

So let's show you a couple of the popular wines that have been a hit over Summer so that we can stretch out this Summer as long as possible.

Petaluma Riesling
2014

Lovely bright floral aromas of lemon blossom and passionfruit are backed up on the palate by pristine intense lemon-lime, with some crunchy apple thrown in. Slatey minerality, a hallmark of the Hanlin Hill Vineyard, combines with high natural acidity.

Don Ramon Campo de Borja
2013

The wine has a ruby red colouration of medium intensity. It has a complex nose of intense aromas particular to Crianza and its grape varieties. The palate is smooth, full and complex with harmonious oak tannins and good length.

Friday 26th February 2016 @ 5pm

The year is truly under way and it's time to kick into our weekly tastings again - and what better way than with three awesome gins and three awesome whiskies!

A gin from France, one from Australia and of course one from England although with an African twist - that should get the senses going!

And the whiskies are different - a Belgian distilling whisky in Scotland and aging them in Burgundy - you've got to have a taste of these!

Vedrenne Ge Gin 1 & 9

The French have done it again - another wonderfully balanced and soft gin.

An extended and exciting period of research led to the selection of 9 ingredients (hence the name of G 1&9): juniper berries, sweet orange peel, coriander, Jamaican chili pepper, angelica, cardamom… and thus an authentic and unique Gin of distinction was created.

MGC - The Melbourne Gin Company

Massive write ups about MGC - The Melbourne Gin Company was certainly one of the father's of the recent Australian Gin craze!

Many different flavours to be enjoyed with this classic style gin - macadamia, sandalwood, honey lemon myrtle and organic navel orange - all sourced from Australia

Whitley Neill Small Batch Gin

Softer than more traditional gins - Whitley Neill is very smooth with rich juniper and citrus and many exotic spices.

The story goes that the distiller wanted to make something special for his African wife's birthday - and that he has absolutely achieved!

Michel Couvreur Candid Scotch Whisky

Amazingly expressive young whisky!

Put a Belgian man with a great skill in making Scotch Whisky in the heart of Burgundy and this is one of the many variations of Michel Couvreur whiskies that are simply gorgeous!

This one was matured in Pedro Ximenez casks.

Michel Couvreur Over Aged Scotch Whisky

Put a Belgian man with a great skill in making Scotch Whisky in the heart of Burgundy and this is one of the many variations of Michel Couvreur whiskies that are simply gorgeous!

This one is a vatting of single malts aged between 12 and 27 years in cognac oak casks.

Michel Couvreur Special Vatting Scotch Whisky

Put a Belgian man with a great skill in making Scotch Whisky in the heart of Burgundy and this is one of the many variations of Michel Couvreur whiskies that are simply gorgeous!

Michel Couvreur Special Vatting Scotch Whisky is a vatting of three single cask whiskies distilled in Scotland each one having aged over 12 years in oak wood.

Grosset Polish Hill Riesling
2015

This is possibly Australia's most popular white wine purchased for cellaring - and perhaps Australia's best Riesling!

Oops - that comment's going to start some arguments :-)

Von Buhl Estate Riesling
2014

Aromatic, juicy, grapefruit, pear, and fresh lime notes.

Isn't that what we want from a German riesling?

This is our most popular riesling on the shelf - superb quality at this price.

Framingham Classic Riesling
2013

A classic New Zealand, off-dry style, with rich fruit and juicy acidity.

Complex varietal characters of lemon citrus, mandarin and stone fruit with a long, mineral finish. Harmless crystals may form in the bottle.

I tell you what, we have some competition from our cousins accross the pond!

Ryder Watervale Riesling
2015

The elevated vineyard that this riesling is grown has rich red loam over deep limestone to produce this distinctive Watervale Riesling.

Lifted floral aromas with a delicate palate of zesty lemon and lime followed by a crisp acid finish.

Awesome value and one of our most popular.

We tasted two glorious, entry-level wines during the week and couldn't wait to share them with you tonight

These West Australian drops are delightful - from the beautiful, expansive Great Southern region.

After tasting these wines, we simply had to put them on Friday night tasting. There's a plump Pinot Noir and a zippy Riesling, both of which got us very excited.

Better yet, these wines are 20% off tonight.

So swing by after 5pm for a taste.

Harewood Estate Pinot Noir
2015

A beautiful wine from the Denmark region of WA. Vibrant flavours of raspberry and ripe strawberries are balanced by more complex notes of spice and truffle with a creamy mid palate. The wine finishes with hints of mocha and redcurrant acidity supported by gentle tannins and toasty French oak.

Harewood Estate Riesling
2015

A seamless palate, with initial flavours of mandarin and grapefruit leading to a sherbet mid-palate of passion fruit and spice finishing with classic mouth-watering citrus. The fine structure is testament to the care taken during this wines production.

Perfect on a hot summer's day.

Spring Seed Wine Co 'Forget Me Not' Semillon Sauvigon Blanc
2014

Freshly cut grass and a hint of citrus on the nose is followed with a lovely mid-weight palate which is super fresh and framed by those soft lemony characters which come from the Semillon. Forget-me-not is perfect when served chilled as an aperitif, but very versatile when matched with a range of different food. Try it with stir fries, lighter creamy cheeses or even dessert.

Friday 6th November 2015 @ 5pm

Our Champagne Heaven event last week was huge! Dare we say, our most successful yet!

Let's continue the sparkle - despite yesterday's wet weather, Summer is here and so we are continuing the excitement of the imminent festive season.

Tonight we are showcasing two more sparklings.

Tonight's Battle:

Spain vs Italy
Cava vs Prosecco

Leonardo Extra Dry Prosecco

The Italians say Prosecco is the King of Sparkling wines!

This little gem has a nose of honey, crisp green apples and lemons with a mellow and smooth taste - too easy to drink! With only a hint of sweetness (dry for prosecco).

A great value start to any afternoon!

Paul Cheneau Blanc de Blancs Brut Cava

The Spanish Scream: Move over Prosecco! Cava is the King of Sparkling wines!

Creamy fruit pastry hints in the mouth. It is fresh, with good acidity, and balanced with nutty and toasty flavours.

Nice carbonic finish with an elegant and lingering on the palate.

Friday 23rd October 2015 @ 5pm

A local vodka that is seductively smooth and has unashamedly bold personality.

A local vodka that is sophisticated, hand crafted and true to it's origin.

  • 100% natural
  • 100% small batch
  • 100% Tasmanian

...Oh and most importantly 100% Delicious ; )

Fire Drum Vodka

Fire Drum was created from the desire to produce a sophisticated vodka that showcases the natural elements of one of the most pristine environments in the world (Tasmania).

Amanda Beck's vision was crystal clear - a premium all natural vodka that was an expression of its raw ingredients and their origin.

And the brilliant reviews are coming in thick and fast!

Friday 9th October 2015 @ 5pm

Following the rules by the book is not always appropriate.

The crew at Beautiful Isle wines are absolutely not conventional - they haven't necessarily thrown out the book but have mashed it up a little and made some fun wines (they call them fancy wines) with all sorts of varietals blended together just simply because they thought they were great!

And we agree!

If you like stretching your taste buds and enjoy stretching your taste buds - then best pop in this evening and give them taste buds a blast as tonight we're showing two Beautiful Isle wines.

Beautiful Isle Red Delicious
2014

Ready to drink field blend from Tamar Valley - a wine of difference produced with passion!

This wine is comprised of Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Shiraz, Tempranillo, Merlot with a splash of Zinfandel.

Beautiful Isle Blushing Lady

Friday 2nd October 2015 @ 5pm

Just one wine this week - an absolute cracker from Oz - one we want to showcase on it's own!

The reviews are huge - and so was our excitement when we had a taste - this was a no brainer for our shelves.

But don't just take our word for it - or even the professional reviews - come in tonight and have a go yourself!

Forester Estate Alicante
2011

A dense and lush palate that is loaded with dark fruits showing hints of spice and cedar.

The tannin structure is fine and velvety with a long chocolaty finish.

A serious and powerful wine from a great producer.

Friday 11th September 2015 @ 5pm

Friday night tasting tonight features two wines which you won't find at many other bottle shops in Sydney.

Nazaaray Pinot Noir is one of the few Pinot Noirs to be picked and bottled in its region of the Mornington Peninsula. 2011 was a very difficult year, however these guys were lucky enough to be able to produce a wine of excellent quality.

Chateau Magneau Graves is a superb semillon sauvignon blanc blend which is mega cheap tonight. We bought a stack of the stuff, because we love it, and are passing our discount on to you guys.

Tasting is free and starts at 5pm. See you there.

Nazaaray Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir
2011

One of the only Pinot Noirs to be produced in this region in 2011. Nazaaray were very fortunate to produce an excellent wine in a very difficult year. The wine has notes of fruit interwoven with spices and perhaps even a touch of pepper among other spicy notes.

Chateau Magneau Graves Blanc
2010

A fruity wine, delicate yet expressive. The freshness of its excellent bouquet of citrus fruits (lemon and grapefruit) is tasted instantly, and serves as a delightful apertif or a delicious accompaniment to seafood or cold meat dishes.

Friday 4th September 2015 @ 5pm

Tonight's Friday Night Tasting is more of a classic style. We're cracking one great little Friulano, an Italian style of wine made from a Sauvignon Blanc-like grape, and one of our all time favourite Pinot Noirs.

Tasting is, as always, absolutely free and the wines are 20% off tonight.

So why not come for a try? Starts from 5pm. See you there

Bellevue Estate Shiraz

Did you hear? Australia is making some awesome gins!

And as we're nuts for gins (www.ginheaven.com.au will be launching next week) - we've just our hands on some of the latest from the McLarenvale Distilling Company on show tonight.

Please note: we have already run out of stock of the Oak Ages Gin - but more coming soon - we'll be pouring this tonight too!

Looks like we're on the world stage for Gins now!

Settlers Old Tom Gin

Distilling was not an exact science at the time of the prohibition - the Settlers Old Tom Gin has followed the guidelines of past with some added Licorice root for sweetness and then some Star Anice to support it with some cinnamon, cloves & nutmeg for winter warmth.

A great rendition of an old favourite!

Settlers Rare Dry Gin

A classic all the goodies of a Londron Dry gin and some Australian botanicals creating an awesome original style.

Citrus tones give a fresh lift - a superbly enjoyable gin that shows that Australia's gin movement is gaining world class status.

Settlers Oak Aged Gin

This gin is matured entirely in fresh oak which imparts a creamy vanilla element and light smokiness. There is complexity provided by the botanicals that include Angelica root.

This gin is highly recommended in a martini or simply over ice with a generous squeeze of orange.

The Botanist Gin

This is a must for any serious Gin drinker.

Hayman's London Dry Gin

Hayman's London Dry Gin is a classic style of gin distilled to a family recipe using a blend of 10 botanicals. The botanicals are steeped for a full day prior to distillation to allow the flavours to release into the alcohol. It is the careful and consistent balance of juniper, coriander, lemon and orange peel which is vital in creating this traditional style of London Dry Gin.

Hayman's 1820 Gin Liqueur

Hayman's Gin Liqueur is distilled to a specific gin recipe with dominant citrus flavours before carefully blended to a liqueur.

At 40% alc, it is a versatile drink balancing the refreshing and distinctive character of gin with the sweetness of a liqueur.

Glenmorangie The Original Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The original expression of Glenmorangie's elegant, floral spirit and the real backbone of the Glenmorangie range.

Perfect for enjoying at any time.

Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or Single Malt Scotch Whisky

An exercise in outrageously good sweet-dry balancing. It is here, in hand selected wine barriques from Sauternes: the most famous and ancient sweet wine growing region of France, that this whisky develops its rich, spicy and dessert-like flavours.

Non chill-filtered for additional aroma and mouthfeel.

Glenmorangie Lasanta Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Elegant but full bodied this whisky has spent ten years maturing in American white oak ex-bourbon casks before being extra-matured for a further two years in Oloroso and PX Sherry casks from Jerez in Spain.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The darkest and most intense whisky in the extra-matured range, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal.

Ardbeg Single Malt Scotch Whisky 10YO

Ardbeg Ten Years Old is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex single malt of them all. Yet it does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the natural sweetness of the malt to produce a whisky of perfect balance.

Tito’s Handmade Vodka is designed to be savored by spirit connoisseurs and everyday drinkers alike. Condes de Alberei is a tropical sensation and summer special. Be warned: once you taste it you won't be able to stop drinking it.

Rotllan's 90 Parker Pointed Priorat is probably the best of the lot.

At 20% off on the night, who could resist?

Don Ramon Campo de Borja
2012

The wine has a ruby red colouration of medium intensity. It has a complex nose of intense aromas particular to Crianza and its grape varieties. The palate is smooth, full and complex with harmonious oak tannins and good length.

Condes de Albarei Albarino
2013

From the cool “green” coast of Spain’s northwest, Condes de Albarei Albariño is a complex blend of flavours. Made from 100% Albariño, this wine has rich, vibrant mouth feel with aromas of tropical fruit, citrus and melons, with a juicy, slightly mineral finish.

Rotllan Torra Priorat
2010

The excellent harmony of  fruit and wood.  Light toast and ripe fruit, vanilla, pepper, with mineral notes and some licorice. On the palate it is soft, silky, very fruity. Tannins and elegant quality to be developed.  A wine that will greatly improve in bottle.

Friday 6th February 2015 @ 5pm

Friday night tastings are on again and we're kicking off the year's tasting with one of our favourite ciders!

We discovered this in a little laneway bar a few years back and absolutely love the range.

There are some awefully sweet ciders out there - and some really boring ones - we won't be pouring any of those tonight!

The Apple Thief range contains no artificial flavours or concentrates, and is currently being downed by discerning drinkers in some of Australia's top bars and restaurants.

And tonight we're giving you 10% discount!

The Apple Thief William Pear Cider

William Pear, a refreshingly fruity taste with a medium sweet finish.

This is quality pear cider that fits beautifully with the other The Apple Thief range - no more sickening sweet lolly water - you could consider this range the benchmark of quality.

The Apple Thief Pink Lady Cider

The first of The Apple Thief varietal ciders, Pink Lady Cider is a lightly sparkling alcoholic cider made from the best snow-country Pink Lady apples.

Pale pink hue and elegant bubbles produced by natural carbonation, our Pink Lady cider has a refreshingly tart flavour and a clean medium to sweet finish.

A delicious cider with a difference!

The Apple Thief Granny Smith Cider

The Apple Thief Granny Smith Cider is the second flavour in the range.

Crisp & clean - this is what cider is about!

Gone are the days of sweet, sickening ciders - this is quality that is appearing in many of the top bars and restaurants around town.

Tonight we're tasting two of our best selling Scottish Single Malt whiskies from Glenmorangie - they have the tallest stills in Scotland, where only the lightest and purist spirit vapours reach the top, giving Glenmorangie its hallmark floral and fruity character. Both matured in bourbon casks and one extra matured or 'finished' in Sauternes 'Barriques'.

Glenmorangie The Original Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The original expression of Glenmorangie's elegant, floral spirit and the real backbone of the Glenmorangie range.

A ten-year-old single malt, Glenmorangie Original is produced by marrying the delicate spirit that emerges from Scotland's tallest stills, with first and second fill American white oak casks.

The creators of Champagne - Ruinart is an absolute cracker!

Ruinart may not have been the first to grow grapes in Champagne but they were the first to put bubbles in it! This is the time of the year that the Champagne flows - absolutely outstanding and loved by all the Champagne connoisseurs.

Life is too short to drink bad Champagne.

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Champagne

The Chardonnay is the very soul of Ruinart. The grape, mainly harvested from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims terroirs, is at the heart of all their cuvées. Their Blanc de Blancs perfectly highlights the luminosity and elegance of this magnificent grape and is the emblem of Ruinart taste.

Ruinart Brut NV Champagne

The nose is delicate and fruity displaying dominant aromas of fresh white pear and dry fruits such as hazelnuts and almonds, followed by white flower notes, Viennese pastry and buttered brioche. The palate reveals a dominant freshness, displaying both tactile roundness and enduring length.

Friday 21st November 2014 @ 5pm

This Friday we're really mixing it up!

We have some locally produced italian style wines from Two Italian Boys - these are one of our more popular products and you'll see the value when you taste them! No wonder many funky restaurants have these on the lists. And also popular is the Italian Prosecco from the same team!

And to top it off we will be tasting a fancy Belgian Beer that is done in a champagne method.

Two Italian Boys Pinot Grigio
2014

This is a fresh upfront let the fruit speak for itself wine. It's just so easy to enjoy!

Soft and supple. There is a light crispness that only adds to the varietal depth.

Value for money? Sure but who cares. It's right there in your nose and palate saying 'Stop buggering around trying to be cool. Let's dance.'

Two Italian Boys Sangiovese
2013

A nice easy to drink sangiovese. It's simple yet has personality.

The word quaffable would be an understatement. Mid weight tannins and nice savoury notes paired with what seems an effortless style make this a year round mainstay of a wine. Order a pizza and put your feet up. Some things in life should be easy. Bellisimo.

Two Italian Boys Prosecco
2013

Want an awesome quality good value Prosecco?  This is the one!

Extra Dry in style allows the subtle sweetness of its fruit to round off behind a minimal acid component to finish a well balanced wine.

The sun is out and the year has almost finished - time to start enjoying ourselves!

St Thomas Triple Fermented Champagne Beer

This is no ordinary beer!

Saint Thomas is a Champagne style beer as it is finished "à la méthode originale" with a second fermentation much like Champagne and then stored 'sur lie' during fermentation.

Tonight we are tasting a range of wines from the awesome Nevis Bluff vineyard in Central Otago, New Zealand.

Nevis Bluff is one of the most well renowned vineyards in Central Otago. Known mostly for their superior Pinot Noirs and Pinot Grigios, they have this year delved into making their first Rose. Made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes this Rose is outstanding and is on tasting tonight alongside many of Nevis Bluff's tried and tested stunners. Come and see for yourself.

We are lucky enough to be the only retailer in Sydney with these 'restaurant only' wines!

Nevis Bluff Rose
2014

Pinot Noir makes a delightful Rosé, so this year Nevis Bluff have sacrificed some of the grapes that go into their signature Pinot Noir to make a fruit driven, summery Rosé.

Made in a dry style, this is a serious wine that delivers all the vibrancy and lifted fruit aromatics that one would hope while still finishing with a warm textural mouth feel.

Nevis Bluff Pinot Gris
2010

The 2010 Nevis Bluff Pinot Gris shows mineral, lime, passionfruit and white peach aromatics. The palate shows strong tropical fruit flavours.

Nevis Bluff Pinot Gris
2006

This pinot gris has lime, white peach, honeysuckle and rockmelon aromatics, followed by a rich textured mouthfeel and shows great persistence and depth.

Nevis Bluff Pinot Noir
2009

The 2009 Nevis Bluff Pinot Noir displays boysenberry, blackcurrant, cinnamon and violet aromatics. The palate shows exotic black fruit flavours with soft and elegant tannins.
