Chateau Branaire Ducru

  2009
750mL

Only time will tell whether the 2009, another great effort from Branaire, will eclipse the 2005 and 2003. Certainly at 13.6% alcohol it is the most powerful Branaire ever made, and the final blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot showcases what a great vintage 2009 is for Cabernet Sauvignon. An inky/blue/purple color is followed by raspberry, boysenberry, crushed rock, graphite, and floral notes, and an opaque, broad, dense, substantial, impressively structured wine without any hardness. It requires 4-5 years of cellaring, and should last four decades or more. (Tasted two times.) Drink 2014-2054.

Sassicaia

  2010
750mL

Gorgeous youthful Sassicaia, deep yet fresh nose is still a bit closed even after decanting, but it displays lovely blackcurrant fruit and a whole host of complex lifted top notes, completely integrated oak, slightly dusty tannins; the palate is distinctly savoury in character, firm structure of grippy tannins and lively acidity, glossy but pure and precise flavours, harmonious and stylish, medium body, elegant and classical style, energetic is a better word than tight, obviously needs time but is already delicious with hearty food; excellent length, complete and playful finish, red berries, oak spice. Should drink well for two decades.

Sassicaia

  2011
750mL

A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, this deep ruby wine serves up black raspberries, anise, dark chocolate, fig and loamy earth on both the nose and palate. Full-bodied, fresh and with big firm tannins, it has impressive mid-palate density and shows no alcoholic heat.

Sassicaia

  2013
750mL

85% Cab Sauv and 15% Cab Franc. Highly aromatic, fragrant and complex nose of cassis, currant, sweet cedar oak, earth, red & black fruits, and a hint of mineral. It's medium-full bodied with refined tannins and very smooth mouthfeel. A touch warming on the palate, but fruit holds up well. Very nice, balanced aroma replays with some floral, clove flavours. Excellent finish length. Harmonious overall, with structured tannins, this will age gracefully.
