Jeaunaux-Robin Brut Rose de Saignee (NV)

750mL / Champagne / France

Category: Sparkling

100% Pinot Meunier from a vineyard with limestone, clay and ferrous red soil.

The vines have an average age of 45 years.

A short maceration gives some tannins and structure to this wine but it is laden with bright red fruits as you’d expect.

The production is only around 150 dozen per year.

About the Winery:

Jeaunaux-Robin was established in 1973 by Michael Jeaunaux in the village of Talus-Saint-Prix within a relatively undiscovered part of the Champagne region called Valleé du Morin.

The region is to the south-west of the Côte des Blancs and north of Côte de Sézanne.

The soil of the region is a combination of chalk and marl and so consequently a mixture of Côte des Blancs and Vallée de la Marne.

The most distinctive character of the soil is the unusual amount of flint in the soil which is hardly found anywhere in Champagne.

The 5.5ha vineyard was planted in 1965 and initially the fruit was delivered to the co-op.

In 1999 Cyril and his wife Clemence joined his father at the domaine and over the next few years they completely removed all chemicals from use in the vineyards challenging the traditional vineyard practices.

Since 2010 they have been using the appropriate preparations for organic viticulture and in 2015 they began the process of official certification.
