Domaine Metrat's Fleurie La Roilette vieilles vignes 2022, bottled in magnum, is an old-vine Gamay from the La Roilette climat, a site often compared to neighbouring Moulin-à-Vent for its structure within the softer Fleurie appellation.

The nose is perfumed, with red cherry, violet and a touch of dark spice, more substantial than a typical Fleurie. On the palate it's silky but with real grip from the old vines, fresh acidity carrying the fruit through to a long, floral finish.

2022 was a warm, generous vintage across Beaujolais, and La Roilette's structure keeps this bottling from tipping into simple fruitiness.

Serve with roast chicken, charcuterie, or a mushroom tart. A light chill suits it well on a warm evening.

Drinking well now and through to around 2028, with the old-vine concentration to hold a little longer than most Fleurie.
