750mL / McLaren Vale, SA / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: Red wine

Tasting Notes:

75% Grenache
17% Shiraz
8% Mataro

The Sew & Sew Sashiko McLaren Vale GSM is plum purple and has a richly perfumed aroma of spices including nutmeg, cinnamon and candied ginger which combine with red cherry and bright red summer fruits.

The palate comprises red fruits with a hint of cherry and plum that are supported by a tantalising spiciness and fine tannins.

Vintage Report:

Over recent years there has been a trend of earlier starts to vintage, the 2017 vintage started 3 weeks later than average.

This is attributed to good strong winter and heavy spring rains coupled with low temperatures.

The vines developed good canopies due to adequate good soil moisture, setting them up for an excellent season.

The days post-Christmas were mild and dry allowing steady ripening conditions and reduced the high disease pressure of spring.

Vineyard Notes:

The components for the Sew & Sew Sashiko McLaren Vale GSM originate from 3 separate vineyards located between the Willunga foot hills and the township of McLaren Vale.

From each vineyard it is possible to see the other and they have similar soil types.

Food Matching:

The Sew & Sew Sashiko McLaren Vale GSM pairs beautifully with spicy ginger Szechuan beef.

Cellaring:

Enjoy now and for the next 5 years.
