Dicey Dicey 'Black Rabbit' Pinot Noir (2021)
750mL / Central Otago / New Zealand
Dicey 'Black Rabbit' Pinot Noir 2021 sits at the top of the Bannockburn estate's range, a more concentrated and structured expression of Central Otago pinot noir than the standard bottling. It carries the extra depth and seriousness the single-vineyard tier is built to show, without losing the sub-region's underlying sense of place.
Dark cherry and plum dominate the nose, layered with dried herbs, forest floor and a savoury spice note that builds with air, along with a faint hint of dark chocolate. The palate is dense and layered, dark fruit carrying real intensity through the middle and a savoury undertone running beneath it.
Tannins are firmer and finer-grained than the entry tier, structured enough to suggest real ageing potential, and the finish is long, savoury and persistent.
This is a wine for the table: duck breast, venison, or a mushroom and truffle risotto will all match its weight and savoury character.
It is drinking well now but built to reward five to eight years in the cellar, with the tannins softening and the savoury notes deepening further.
