Sew & Sew Contours Pinot Noir (2018)

750mL / Adelaide Hills, SA / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: Red wine

Tasting Notes:

Sew & Sew Sashiko McLaren Vale Shiraz is deep violet in colour, with aromas of black currant, red currant and dark cherry which lead to a pleasant earthiness with a hint of black pepper.

Currants and red berries dominate a rich palate which included dark cherry, plum and sweet spices.

Good acidity and soft velvety tannins combine to create a balanced wine with good length.

Vintage Report:

High rainfall during the winter preceding vintage 2017, resulted in full soil profiles.

During spring conditions were wet, stormy, and cool, resulting in cold soil conditions and later than average bud burst. Fortuitously the flowering period was stable and dry resulting in good set.

There was one significant rainfall during February, followed by an autumn of warm days and cool nights, perfect for ripening.

Overall, elegance and balance characterise the ’17 vintage.

Winemaking:

Sew & Sew Sashiko McLaren Vale Shiraz is made gently with minimal interference in the natural process of wine making.

The grapes are crushed and fermented in two tonne open fermenters.

The ferment is hand plunged morning and night. Once dry it is basket pressed, settled, and transferred to barrels where it remains for 11 months. The oak is a mixture of 20% new American hogsheads and 80% matured French and American barques and hog's heads.
