Gembrook Hill produce the IJM Pinot Noir as hommage to Ian Marks (founder with wife June) - this is the first vintage and what a stunner!

While youthful, the wine shows a tannic backbone not normally seen in Gembrook Pinot - vibrant red cherry flavours - it is evident the care given to the vines (Ian's passion) from the excpetionally balanced and quality wine that has been produced.

A vigneron’s wine, as a true reflection of terroir. This wine is a blend comprising two-thirds of the oldest Pinot Noir at Gembrook Hill and a third of the youngest MV6 Pinot Noir. The fruit was destemmed and vinified in open fermenters for three weeks.

Elevage in old French oak.

The wines were vinified separately and assembled prior to bottling in January 2019.

Winemaking is pushed to the background to ensure the site shines through.

About Gembrook Hill:

It was 1983 when Ian and June Marks found their vineyard site after a long search for the perfect pocket of land throughout almost every wine region in Victoria.

In March, 2017, Ian died suddenly and unexpectedly. His vision, energy, creativity and passion in establishing Gembrook Hill Vineyard inspire June and Andrew to uphold and continue his legacy.

With views of Mt Donna Buang, a backdrop of the Warburton ranges, red soil and a coveted north-easterly aspect, it is the perfect spot for cool climate winemaking.

Gembrook Hill led the way as part of the 'second wave' of Yarra Valley vignerons, and today is one of the oldest vineyards in the Upper Yarra sub-region.

Gembrook's wines are regarded as some of the most outstanding examples of their variety in Australia and are crafted with an old-world winemaking mindset.
