Sinapius La Peau d'Un Gruner Veltliner (2020)

750mL / Tasmania / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: Red wine

Tasting Notes:

Dark red fruits, undergrowth and graphite notes on the nose.

The palate is long with intense red fruits, dark berries, cured meats and blood plums, interwoven with fragrant cloves, fine spice and wonderful minerality.

The chalky, mouth coating tannins are fine, and persistent.

A powerful wine with great length and tension.

Drink now (decanting recommended) or cellar up to 2030.

Vintage Notes:

Handpicked from two north-east facing high density blocks, La Clairiére and The Enclave, planted to 7,700 vines per hectare.

Volcanic soils, 12 different Pinot Noir clones, and super low yields (<0.5kg per vine – 30hl/ha).

Like the 2018 Close Planted Pinot Noir, the decision by Sinapius was made to blend both blocks as the wine was more complete than the sum of its parts.

The grapes were gently destemmed, naturally fermented with 100% whole berries for 3 weeks before pressing and maturing on full lees for 18 months in French oak barriques (20% new).

Unfined and unfiltered, this wine was bottled in December 2020.
