Fabien Duveau Saumur blanc Poyeux (2022)
1.5L / Saumur, Loire Valley / France
Fabien Duveau's Saumur blanc Poyeux 2022, bottled in magnum, is a dry Chenin Blanc from old vines on the Poyeux site, part of the same limestone plateau behind Saumur-Champigny's best reds.
Quince, white flowers and a chalky minerality lead the nose, with real texture behind the fruit from the old-vine fruit. The palate is dry and layered, carrying more weight than a young-vine Chenin would, balanced by the variety's natural acid line through to a long, stony finish. Duveau farms across several named Saumur sites, and Poyeux's limestone gives this bottling real precision alongside its depth.
Serve with roast chicken, a creamy fish pie, or a soft goat's cheese. It also handles richer shellfish dishes well. Drinking well now and with the structure to develop further over the next five years.
