Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Riesling (2024)

750mL / Heathcote, VIC / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: White Wine

The Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Riesling 2024 is a dry, medium-bodied white from Heathcote in central Victoria, built on lime and citrus blossom with a firm line of natural acidity. Grown on the estate's dry-grown Georgia's Paddock vineyard under organic and biodynamic practice, it is a Riesling with more flesh and presence than the taut southern Australian benchmarks.

Lime juice and zest lead the aromatics, backed by white flowers, jasmine and a touch of ripe pear. Air brings a lemon pith edge and a faint stony note underneath the fruit. The palate has real drive, with zingy acidity running from front to back and a pulpy, almost soft texture in its youth. Flavour sits in the lemon and grapefruit spectrum with a slight peachy fruit character, and the finish is long, dry and gently viscous rather than austere.

Pair the 2024 Georgia's Paddock Riesling with salt and pepper squid, Vietnamese chicken salad, freshly shucked oysters or a wedge of pecorino. It also stands up to green curry and other dishes where chilli would flatten a lesser white. Good drinking now while the aromatics are bright, though the acid structure suggests this Heathcote Riesling will reward cellaring for eight to ten years, taking on toast and honey with time.
