Triennes Rosé IGP Méditerranée 2022 is a pale, dry Provence rosé built mainly on Cinsault, with Grenache, Syrah and Merlot filling out the blend. Night picking and a direct press keep the fruit crisp and the colour barely there — a faint salmon-pink that tells you the wine is about freshness rather than weight.

The nose leans towards wild strawberry and white peach, with pink grapefruit peel and a lift of white flowers behind. Bring the glass back after a few minutes and there is pomegranate and a dusting of dried spice, the kind of savoury edge that stops a rosé from tasting sweet.

Lees ageing gives the mid-palate a touch of roundness, but the shape of this 2022 is linear: tart red fruit, a clean saline thread and acidity that finishes dry and mouthwatering. Nothing sits heavily, and the aftertaste holds on citrus rather than fading into fruit sugar.

Serve it properly cold, around 8 to 10 degrees, and pour it into a decent white wine glass rather than a tumbler. Triennes Rosé works alongside grilled prawns, salt-and-pepper squid, a niçoise salad, goat's cheese on toast or cold roast chicken the day after. This is a rosé to drink young, so open bottles of the 2022 through the coming summer rather than cellaring them.
