The Mazi Mataro Cinsault Grenache Rosé 2026 is a McLaren Vale rosé built from three red varieties more usually seen as reds in their own right, pressed off skins early for colour and texture rather than sweetness. Made from old McLaren Vale vines in a style that leans savoury and structured, it sits closer to the dry rosés of southern France than the confectionery pink so common on Australian shelves.

The nose runs to red cherry, watermelon rind and crushed herbs, with a faint spice and dried rose petal lift from the Mataro and Grenache in the blend, and a savoury, almost briny undertone from the Cinsault. The palate follows through with the same red fruit, joined by a savoury, almost salty edge that keeps it from tipping into fruitiness, with a little grip through the middle.

There is real texture here: dry, bright acid and a light tannic grip carried over from the red grapes give this rosé more chew than most, finishing clean and dry rather than lingering sweet, with the savoury note carrying through to the very end.

Its texture and savoury streak make it a natural match for grilled octopus, taramasalata, haloumi or a plate of charcuterie, and it holds its own against dishes with a little char or smoke.

Drink it in its youth, within the next year or so, while the fruit is at its brightest and the texture at its freshest.
