Equipo Navazos Saca de October (2014)

375mL / Australia

Over the years, we've been continuously (if gently) nagging the Equipo Navazos team to expand their 'entry level' range beyond the superb I Think Manzanilla. Recently we've had some great success, firstly with the outstanding PX Gran Solera, and now with the wine below, an outstanding, en rama Fino; at a fraction of the cost of the hyper-rare La Bota Fino wines. So now we have a set of authentic Navazos wines that our restaurant clients can easily offer by the glass and our merchants can sell by the case.

The depth and energy of the Navazos En Rama Fino, not to mention the price, has honestly surpassed all of our expectations. Of course, the quality of this wine should not have come as a surprise. Firstly, the raw materials hail from two of Jerez's finest albariza vineyards or pagos; Cartera and Macharnudo Alto, located four kilometres west-northwest of Jerez de la Frontera. The latter site has been coined the 'Montrachet of Jerez' and is also the source of the legendary La Bota de Fino "Macharnudo Alto" solera -whose current release marks the La Bota series' 54th bottling. So it's a wine that derives from two great Palomino vineyards. Then, after an average of five years aging (the legal minimum is two), the wine is bottled in its natural state, en rama, and not subject to the harsh filtering process that has come to hold sway in Sherry.

As the notes below make clear, you'll find in each bottle of the Navazos En Rama Fino, the same delicious qualities for which Navazos has become famous - the pungent aromas, depth of flavour, detail and charisma. Of course not the singular personality or level of greatness that you get from the La Bota series wines, but not the price either! Nonetheless, it remains mind-bogglingly good. The purity, freshness, floral aromatics, fruit sweetness and saltiness of this wine need to be tasted to be believed. And it's even better day two. Delicious!

"Not yet on sale in the UK yet but should be from Feb next year. It's a Fino in answer to the I Think Manzanilla bottling for Bibendum, Australia! Really impressive on the nose. Lovely balance. Limpid and salty. Really lovely and perfectly balanced. Firm and fine. Solid and salty. 15% Drink 2014-2018. 37.5cl" 17.5 points, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com

"It has a surprising aromatic nose, with flowers, apricots and peaches, almost tropical notes of candied fruits (aromas that you often find in the stoppers of botas that have an intense biological activity) that woul
