Madeira is the world's most robust and long lived wines. They can easily live for centuries and stay fresh for months after opening. For those who have not tasted Madeira, it is a fortified wine from the Portugese island of the same name, made in a range of styles from dry(ish) to sweet, yet always with an elegance and a distinctive refreshing tang. Storage:

The wines are best stored upright. They will not really develop in bottle so can be purchased to drink immidiately, however they will keep for many months without deteriorating after opening which is a huge bonus. 

Food:

These wines can be surprisingly versatile with food. Perhaps one of the greatest food and wine matchings of all is Madeira with a rich consomme.

Tasting Notes

The 10 year old range is the level where serious Madeira begins - a quantam leap ahead of the simpler, far less complex younger wines. Aeging in oak casks produces more concentrated wines. These wines also muyst be made predominantly from the 4 classic Madeira varieties: Sercial, Verdelho.
