Main & Cherry McLaren Vale Tempranillo (2024)
750mL / McLaren Vale / Australia
Main & Cherry's McLaren Vale Tempranillo 2024 takes the Spanish variety and gives it a juicier, more immediate style than some of the region's more savoury examples. It is medium garnet in the glass, bright and inviting rather than dense or brooding.
Red cherry and plum lead the nose, with a light dusting of dried spice underneath, and a faint red liquorice note that shows itself as the wine sits in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and fruit-forward, with soft tannin and moderate acidity that make it easy to drink without food, though it holds up well alongside a simple, casual meal too.
The finish is fruity and of moderate length, closing cleanly with just a trace of spice left behind on the very end.
It suits chorizo, grilled pork or a simple bean stew, food with a bit of spice or smoke that this style matches well.
It is best enjoyed within its first couple of years, while the fruit stays juicy and the spice notes stay bright and lively.
