Oates Ends' Tempranillo 2023 brings a variety more associated with Spain and increasingly Orange or the Riverland to Margaret River, made by this SWA-certified sustainable producer in a medium-bodied, savoury style. The cooler 2023 vintage across Western Australia gave the fruit good natural acid, and the wine reflects that with real freshness.

Red cherry, dried tobacco and a light earthy spice define the nose, with a subtle herbal note, a faint leathery edge and a touch of dried fig. The palate is medium-bodied and savoury, red fruit balanced against fine tannin rather than any heavy extraction, and good length for its weight.

The tannin is fine and the finish savoury and moderate in length, with the fruit staying fresh rather than turning jammy, closing on a dried-herb note that lingers pleasantly.

It is a good match for chorizo, a tomato-based braise, grilled lamb skewers, a simple paella, or a board of Spanish-style cured meats.
