Wangolina Dolcetto (2024)

750mL / Limestone Coast / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: Red wine

Wangolina's Dolcetto 2024 is grown on the Limestone Coast of South Australia, a variety native to Piedmont given a maritime-cooled home here. True to its Italian name, it is an approachable red made for early, easy drinking rather than the cellar, deep purple in the glass with a bright rim.

Dark cherry and blackberry lead, with a faint bitter-almond note, a touch of violet and a light dusting of white pepper on the finish of the nose. There is a subtle plum skin note that adds a little extra weight.

The palate is soft, with low, velvety tannins and bright acidity giving it a juicy, refreshing character. The finish is short and clean, with none of the tannic grip some Piedmontese reds carry.

Serve it lightly chilled with charcuterie, pizza or a simple pasta - Dolcetto was made for exactly this kind of casual meal. It also suits a simple plate of salami and olives.

Drink it over the next one to two years while the fruit is at its juiciest.
