Wangolina Tempranillo (23/24)

750mL / Limestone Coast / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: Red wine

Wangolina's Tempranillo, a blend of the 2023 and 2024 vintages, is grown on South Australia's maritime-cooled Limestone Coast, a region increasingly known for this Spanish variety's ability to hold acidity and freshness. It is a medium-bodied red with generous fruit, deep cherry-red in the glass.

Red cherry, plum and a touch of dried tobacco lead, with a savoury, dusty spice underneath. There is a faint leathery note that adds a savoury dimension to the aromatics.

The palate is soft and rounded, with fine tannins and bright acidity giving a juicy, food-friendly finish. There is a gentle warmth through the finish that suits the variety's Iberian origins, and the acidity keeps every glass feeling refreshed rather than heavy.

Pour it with grilled chorizo, slow-roasted lamb or a paella - dishes with a Spanish accent suit it naturally. It also matches well with a simple plate of manchego and quince paste, or a bowl of patatas bravas with aioli.

Drink it over the next two to three years, while the fruit is fresh and the tannins still youthful and unresolved.
