Main & Cherry McLaren Vale Sangiovese (2025)
750mL / McLaren Vale / Australia
Main & Cherry's McLaren Vale Sangiovese 2025 brings an Italian variety to South Australia's warmth, and shows the savoury, food-friendly character Sangiovese is prized for at home in Tuscany. It is a bright, medium ruby in the glass, with good clarity through to the rim.
Red cherry and dried herbs dominate the nose, with a faintly tannic, tea-leaf quality on the palate, and a faint orange peel note that lifts the aroma without adding sweetness. Acidity stays lively throughout, keeping the wine feeling fresh despite its warm-climate origin, and the savoury, herbal note carries from nose through to palate without much fruit sweetness getting in the way.
The finish is dry and savoury, with cherry fruit fading to leave a herbal note behind on the very end of the palate.
It is built for the table — a tomato-based pasta, pizza or roast chicken with herbs will all bring out its best.
It drinks well young, showing its best fruit and aromatic lift now, and there is nothing to be gained by holding it beyond a year or two.
