Tumblong Hills Table of Plenty Sangiovese (2024)
750mL / Gundagai / Australia
Table of Plenty Sangiovese 2024 comes from Tumblong Hills' vineyard in Gundagai, in the South West Slopes of New South Wales, where the altitude helps this Tuscan variety hold onto acidity through ripening. It is a medium-bodied red with the variety's typical savoury edge, garnet in colour with a bright rim.
Sour cherry and red plum lead, with dried herb, a touch of tomato leaf and a distinct earthy, tea-leaf undertone. There is a faint dusty, terracotta-like note that adds to the wine's rustic character.
The tannins are fine but persistent, and the acidity is bright, giving a palate built for the table rather than sipping alone. The finish is dry and savoury, with the sour cherry note resurfacing after the swallow.
This is a natural match for tomato-based pasta, pizza or roast chicken - Sangiovese's acid line was built for exactly this kind of food. It also suits a simple caprese salad or a plate of cured meats.
Drink it over the next two to four years while its bright acidity and fresh fruit are at their best.
