Nick O'Leary Shiraz (2023)
375mL / Canberra District / Australia
Sourced from vineyards in Murrumbateman and Hall. Bright and shimmering in the glass, this wine is enticing and seductive from the first sip. Pretty red berry fruits, allspice and pressed red florals dominate the nose, providing a classic expression of Canberra District regionality. It sees a 1 week ambient cold soak before ferment with 40% whole bunches and a large proportion of whole berry outside that, the influence of which provide a delightfully slippery mouthfeel and mouth-watering tannins. Very plush and expressive for the vintage, a touch of new oak (35%) sweetens on the palate but is balanced by crunchy and refreshing natural acidity. 2-3% Viognier is also included.
