Nashdale Lane Nashdale Lane Shiraz (2024)
750mL / Orange / Australia
Nashdale Lane's Shiraz 2024 is a cool-climate expression of the variety, grown at altitude in Orange where the cooler nights push the wine toward a leaner, more peppery style than Shiraz from the Barossa or McLaren Vale. It shows the savoury, restrained character high-altitude sites are increasingly known for, and a real point of difference from warmer-grown examples.
Dark plum, black pepper and dried herbs define the nose, with a distinct spice that sets it apart from warmer-grown Shiraz, and a faint violet lift. The palate is medium-bodied, dark fruit balanced by a peppery, savoury edge rather than sweetness, carrying that spice cleanly through the middle.
Tannin is fine and the acid fresh, giving the wine real lift and a savoury, moderately long finish that closes on pepper and dried herb.
Its peppery character makes it a natural match for a peppercorn steak, duck, a spiced sausage roll, or a rich mushroom risotto.
It drinks well young but has the structure to hold for a few more years if you prefer it settled.
