Zilliken Rausch Riesling Auslese (2012)
375mL / Germany
Product Overview
Hans-Joachim (Hanno) Zilliken has slowly brought this estate to the forefront of German viticulture by bottling spectacularly long-ageing riesling, often incorporating improbably high levels of residual sugar yet always retaining clarity, energy and lip-smacking balance.
Winemaking Notes
Hanno Zilliken and his daughter Dorothee produce on average 70,000 bottles a year from 11ha of steep, south-facing vineyards in Saarburg, with most wines aged in old German oak barrels for six months for balance and structure.
Tasting Notes
Of all grape-varieties, Riesling has the greatest spectrum. The diversity is reaching from dry over fruity to noble sweet wines, attractive in its youth and interesting in its matured type. There are wines for every day, classic wines of the single vineyard sides Saarburger Rausch and Ockfener Bockstein, and the top wines for the auction and your library.
***Reviews
John Gilman:
“These are wines of sizzling precision, surreal purity and absolutely electric palate impressions that have stretched Saar riesling as taughtly as a piano wire and still deliver unbelievably gracious drinking. These are magical wines that often defy logical analysis.”
