Tumblong Hills Gundagai Chenin Blanc (2024)

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: White Wine

Gundagai Chenin Blanc 2024 is grown at Tumblong Hills, in the elevated South West Slopes region of New South Wales that gives the Gundagai district its cool-climate edge. Some of the vineyard's plantings date back to 1998, among the earliest of their kind in the district, and the variety - more familiar from the Loire - finds real freshness at this altitude, showing a pale lemon-gold hue.

Green apple, quince and lemon zest define the nose, with a faint waxy, honeyed note beneath the citrus. There is a subtle chalky minerality that adds further interest to the aromatics.

The palate is crisp and dry, with good texture and acidity that keeps the wine lively through a clean, long finish. Acid is the driving force, keeping the mid-palate taut without ever feeling lean, and the waxy note resurfaces on the finish.

It suits lighter seafood, goat's cheese or a simple salad with a citrus dressing - dishes that will not overwhelm its freshness. It also matches well with a simple pan-fried whiting.

Drink it over the next one to two years while the fruit stays fresh and vivid.
