Hither & Yon Fiano (2026)

750mL / McLaren Vale / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: White Wine

Fiano has become one of McLaren Vale's most convincing white plantings, and Hither & Yon's 2026 release from the region shows why the variety suits this warmer, coastal-influenced climate so well. It sits a light gold in the glass, denser-looking than a typical crisp white, with a faint richness visible before it is even poured.

Almond and honeysuckle lead the nose, with ripe pear and a savoury, slightly nutty character on the palate, and a faint waxy texture that builds through the middle of the mouth. There is real weight here, more chewy than sharp, without losing the freshness that keeps it from feeling heavy, and a subtle spice note that emerges on the second or third sip.

The finish is dry and lingering, with the nutty, almond note carrying longest after the fruit drops away, and a faint bitterness on the very end that keeps it from feeling soft.

It matches well with grilled octopus, roast pork or anything with a lemon and herb dressing, standing up to bolder Mediterranean flavours better than most crisp whites can manage.

It is best enjoyed within its first couple of years, while its texture and aromatics are at their most vivid.
