Tegernseerhof Ried Loibenberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd (2024)
750mL / Wachau / Austria
Tegernseerhof Ried Loibenberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd 2024 is a single-vineyard white wine from the Wachau in Austria, grown on the Loibenberg site — a Ried, or classified vineyard, under Austrian wine law. It is a more site-specific expression than the estate's village-level Smaragd wines, with its own distinct personality.
The 2024 shows a precise, energetic nose of white pepper, citrus blossom and green apple, with a faint smoky minerality underlining the fruit, a hallmark of this particular site. On the palate the fruit is vivid and the spice pronounced, carried by a taut, driving structure that feels youthful and tightly wound.
Acidity is prominent, giving the wine real cut, and the finish is long and peppery, with a mineral edge that lingers.
It suits veal, mushroom dishes or a rich chicken pie, especially anything finished with a touch of cream, where its spice and structure both have room to work.
This is a wine still finding its feet — it will reward two or three years in the cellar as much as drinking now.
