Dead Man Walking Riesling (2022)
750mL / Eden Valley / Australia
Vibrant notes of fresh lime, lemon balm, and Holy basil gracefully intertwine over an enchanting bouquet of white flowers and delightful spices. The unmistakable slate-like minerality, characteristic of Eden Valley, unfolds on the palate, providing a refreshing yet opulent flavor that forms the basis for the elevated citrus and sweet spice nuances that traverse the entire length of the palate.
Tom Kies, a winemaker noted by James Halliday for his intriguingly gothic name, conceived the label Dead Man Walking. Tom lived by the philosophy of not delaying or procrastinating, driven by a profound passion for wine and an exuberant approach to life. Despite his remarkable winemaking skills, Tom's valiant but ultimately unsuccessful nine-year battle against colon cancer concluded with the creation of this label and the inaugural release of the first wine in 2016. In a display of unwavering loyalty, the Hughes, close family friends, have taken the reins of Dead Man Walking. They are dedicated to fulfilling Tom's winemaking legacy while simultaneously contributing to the education of his two sons. A portion of the proceeds from each bottle's sale is directed towards a trust fund for this purpose.
