Greywacke Riesling 2023 shows a drier, more mineral side of Marlborough than the region's sauvignon blanc reputation suggests. It is a wine built on precision rather than power, with real varietal character intact, closer to the dry, mineral rieslings of Europe than to an off-dry crowd-pleaser.

Lime, green apple and a touch of jasmine lead the nose, with a flinty, wet-stone undertone and a faint floral lift. The palate is taut and linear, citrus-driven with barely any sweetness getting in the way of the fruit, the flavours tracking closely with the aromatics.

Acidity is the backbone here, running high and clean through a long, dry finish with a faint textural grip on the very end and a lingering citrus pith note.

It is an excellent match for lighter Asian dishes, delicate seafood, or simply on its own as an aperitif where its precision can do the talking.

This is a wine built for the cellar as much as the table: expect it to develop honeyed, kerosene complexity over the next eight to ten years.
