Tegernseerhof Bergdistel Riesling Smaragd (2024)
750mL / Wachau / Austria
Tegernseerhof Bergdistel Riesling Smaragd 2024 is a white wine from the Wachau in Austria, grown on the Bergdistel site and made in the region's ripest, fullest classification. Where the estate's Federspiel Riesling is all lift and zip, this Smaragd bottling carries genuine depth and texture.
Stone fruit, honeyed citrus and a mineral core define the nose, with more richness than a lighter-tier Riesling typically shows and a faint apricot note joining the stone fruit. The palate is textured and layered, with ripe peach and lime carried by real concentration rather than pure acid drive, feeling substantial in the mouth without ever losing its sense of freshness.
Acidity remains bright beneath that richness, keeping the wine balanced through to a long, mineral, slightly honeyed finish.
It pairs well with richer seafood, roast poultry or Asian dishes with a touch of spice, from a rich fish curry to roast duck, where its texture has something to meet.
It is drinking well now, with the structure to reward a few more years in the cellar for those who want to wait.
