Grenache Touriga 2022 is a less conventional McLaren Vale blend, pairing Grenache's bright red fruit with the perfumed lift and dark colour Touriga brings from its Portuguese origins. It is a deeper, more saturated purple-red than a straight Grenache, with real intensity showing in the glass.

Violet and dark berry aromatics lead the nose, layered over raspberry and a faintly floral spice that sets it apart from more straightforward reds, with a touch of dark plum rounding out the middle of the aroma. The palate is medium-bodied, with velvety tannin and a perfumed quality running right through to the finish, carrying that same floral note from nose to palate without ever feeling sweet.

The finish is fragrant and lingering, closing on florals rather than fruit alone, with a soft, rounded texture throughout right to the last drop.

Try it with duck, grilled pork belly or anything with a touch of sweetness in the sauce, which suits its perfumed character particularly well.

It is approachable now, with soft enough tannin that it does not need extended cellaring to be enjoyed at its best.
