Farina Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG (2023)

750mL / Valpolicella / Italy

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: Red wine

The Farina Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2023 sits at the top of the estate's range, made from grapes dried using the appassimento method before fermentation to concentrate sugar and flavour. The result is a powerful, full-bodied red unlike anything else in the Valpolicella lineage, with real depth, intensity and weight in the glass.

Dried cherry, fig, raisin and dark chocolate lead the nose, with notes of star anise, dried herbs and a faint hint of espresso adding complexity. A whisper of dried rose petal lifts the darker aromas. The palate is dense and velvety, carrying that same dried-fruit richness through a long, warming finish.

Tannins are broad but ripe, and the wine has real weight and concentration, finishing with a lingering, slightly bitter-sweet note characteristic of the style.

This calls for equally rich food — braised game, aged hard cheeses, or simply on its own after dinner. A dark chocolate dessert or a slow-cooked venison ragù also suits it well.

It is approachable now but built to age, with the structure to develop over the next decade or more, growing ever more complex.
