Since the first release in 2003, this wine has been an excellent introduction to the Prophet's Rock house style and site driven approach to Pinot Noir.

Rocky Point is produced exclusively from our own vineyards and the wines benefit from the classical approach that is the hallmark of  Prophet’s Rock. In the winery the fruit is handled with the same care, respect and methods used for all Prophet's Rock wines. The Rocky Point Pinot Noir is barrel-aged before bottling.

The Rocky Point Pinot Noir are typically expressive, perfumed and supple wines that drink very well in their youth. For those with patience, the wines will continue to improve, with peak drinking 5-7 years from vintage. The Rocky Point Pinot Noir has consistently won awards and great reviews since the first release in 2003.

Winemakers Notes:

The grapes are hand-picked from the two Prophet's Rock estate vineyards in the Bendigo and Pisa sub-regions of Central Otago. The principal source is the Rocky Point Vineyard in Bendigo with its warm, free draining, predominantly schist soils and some of the steepest planted blocks in Central Otago. The Kopuwai Delta vineyard is located in the Pisa sub-region of Central Otago and the site has a mix of glacial and alluvial soil.

Extensive canopy and crop management is carried out during the growing season to ensure the grapes attained full physiological ripeness with great concentration, aromatics, and flavour. Yields on both sites are kept very low and do not exceed 38hl/ha or 5t/ha.

The handpicked fruit is destemmed and fermented using only indigenous 'wild' yeast. A key feature of our vinification is extremely low extraction, all our small open top tanks are only hand-plunged once during fermentation. The wine then spends 10 months in barrel (15% new) and undergoes indigenous malolactic fermentation. The wine is bottled under screw-cap.

Prophet's Rock winemaking aims to be an exercise in understanding and translating our stunning sites into wine as accurately as possible with a minimum of winery signature.
