Sequent Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir (2021)

750mL / Adelaide Hills, SA / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: Red wine

Sequent Adelaide Hills 2021 Pinot Noir is pretty and perfumed, with elaborate aromas and layered flavours of lifted juicy strawberries and red berries rounded with beautifully balanced tannins and elegant acidity.

The herbed, lightly Autumn-spiced finish with a touch of earthiness complements real freshness with refined texture - silky tannins and plush length.

The vineyard:

Delicately thin-skinned, this “difficult darling” has taken time to make Australia home; thriving in cooler regions like the Adelaide Hills, Pinot still accounts for just 3% of Australia’s crush.

The soils and climate of the Hills make ideal conditions for the cultivation of premium Pinot. The fruit for Sequent Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir is MV6 close (the heritage clone from Clos Vougeot) from a single estate, family run mature vineyard in Piccadilly with an unusually cool microclimate and low yields.

Winemaking:

The (secret) wine winemaker has an accomplished history of making highly-rated Pinots.

Vintage 2021 was welcomed for the long, cool ripening that Pinot cherishes. The growing season was the coldest of the past decade—perfect conditions maximising flavour intensity and prized complexity.

Whole berries fermented in small-batch open fermenters and pumped over twice daily during post-fermentation, hand plunging assured colour and gentle tannin extraction.

Malolactic fermentation and maturation in Burgundian barriques (15% new) followed.
