Mulline Pinot Noir (2025)
750mL / Geelong. VIC / Australia
The Mulline Pinot Noir 2025 is a bright, fine-boned red from Geelong in Victoria, leaning on red fruit and savoury lift rather than depth of colour or weight. Medium-bodied and cool-climate in shape, it has the fragrance and acidity that Geelong Pinot Noir is known for.
The aroma runs to red cherry, raspberry and a little rhubarb, with dried herbs, orange peel and a whiff of crushed leaf behind. On the palate the fruit is tart and clean, more sour cherry than jam, with a faint peppery edge and a subtle earthiness that stops it reading as simply juicy. Tannins are fine and slightly grippy, drawn out through the middle rather than dumped at the front, and the acid line keeps everything upright. Texture is silky without being too soft, and the finish is long, dry and a touch savoury, leaving red fruit and stony minerality behind.
Serve at around 15 degrees, cooler than room temperature, and give it twenty minutes in the glass or a short decant to open the perfume. Duck breast, mushroom risotto, roast pork with fennel, or a plate of charcuterie all work nicely. Drinking well from now, and the structure suggests it will hold and gain some complexity through to about 2031.
