Laurent Chardigny Bourgogne Pinot Noir (2024)
750mL / Burgundy / France
The Laurent Chardigny Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2024 is a light to medium-bodied red Burgundy built on freshness rather than weight. Bright, drinkable and unfussy, it shows the crunchy red-fruited side of Pinot Noir rather than anything dark or brooding.
Red cherry, cranberry and wild strawberry lead the aroma, with a suggestion of rose petal and crushed leaf behind them. A little time in the glass brings out a savoury, earthy edge that keeps the fruit honest.
The palate is supple and gently juicy, with fine, powdery tannins and a clean acid line running from front to back. There is no heaviness here — the texture is silky, the fruit stays taut, and the finish is dry and moderately long, closing on tart cherry and a faint sappiness.
Serve it slightly cool, around 15 degrees, with roast chicken, duck breast, mushroom risotto or a charcuterie board. It also handles grilled salmon and pork rillettes comfortably, and is one of the few reds that will sit happily alongside a plate of soft cheeses.
Drink now through to around 2029. The 2024 is approachable straight away, though a year or two in the cellar will let the tannins soften further and the savoury notes come forward.
