Dalwood Estate Dalwood Estate Chardonnay (2024)

750mL / Hunter Valley / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: White Wine

The Hunter Valley runs warmer than most of Australia's chardonnay heartland, and the 2024 Dalwood Estate Chardonnay shows it, built on generosity rather than austerity.

Yellow peach and rockmelon lead the nose, backed by ripe citrus rather than anything green or herbal, with a faint honeyed note adding to the impression of warmth. The palate follows suit, with round, full stone-fruit flavour rather than the tighter, more linear style cooler regions tend to produce.

Acidity is soft rather than searing, giving a smooth, full-bodied wine with a generous, rounded finish that leans toward comfort over tension. There's enough weight through the middle to make it feel more like a meal companion than a wine for sipping alone, and a faint toasted-nut character shows itself as the glass warms.

It's an easy match for roast chicken, pork with a fruit-based sauce, or anything creamy; the wine's own roundness pairs naturally with dishes built the same generous way.

Drink it over the next one to two years while the stone-fruit character is at its freshest.
