E.J. McDougall Margaret River Chardonnay (2025)

750mL / Margaret River / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: White Wine

The 2025 Margaret River Chardonnay comes from one of Australia's benchmark chardonnay regions, a maritime pocket of Western Australia known for producing wines with citrus focus and naturally high acidity.

White peach and grapefruit lead, with a streak of lemon curd giving the nose some richness without tipping into anything tropical, and a faint white-flower lift sitting just underneath. The palate is taut and textural, with the stone-fruit character staying in check against a firm citrus spine.

Acidity is the defining feature here, marine-fresh and persistent, carrying a medium-bodied wine through to a long, clean finish. There's a subtle savoury, saline note on the very back of the palate that keeps the whole thing feeling more coastal than orchard-driven, and a faint nuttiness that builds the longer the glass sits open.

It works well with grilled or steamed seafood, roast chicken, or a creamy pasta that needs a wine with enough acid to cut through the richness.

Drink it over the next two to three years, while its citrus drive is at its brightest.
