McHenry Hohnen Hazel's Vineyard Chardonnay (2024)

750mL / Margaret River / Australia

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: White Wine

Hazel's Vineyard Chardonnay 2024 is McHenry Hohnen's biodynamically farmed single-vineyard Chardonnay from Margaret River, a fuller, more textured counterpart to the estate's Calgardup Brook bottling from the same 2024 vintage. Where Calgardup Brook leans linear and precise, Hazel's Vineyard shows more generosity in the mid-palate, without losing the region's natural freshness.

Yellow peach, baked apple and a creamy, nutty note lead the nose, with a hint of honeysuckle, toasted almond and a faint spice underneath. The palate is rounder and more textured, with stone fruit and a savoury, lees-derived character giving it real weight, carried by a gentle creaminess through the finish.

Acid remains bright underneath that texture, keeping the wine balanced through a long, layered finish that doesn't lose its shape, with the fruit lingering well after the last sip.

It has the richness to match a roast chicken with all the trimmings, a creamy risotto, pan-seared scallops in butter, or a mushroom tart.

Give it a year or two more to let the texture and fruit fully integrate, though it is already showing well.
