Gusbourne Guinevere Chardonnay (2021)

750mL / Kent & Sussex / United Kingdom

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: White Wine

Gusbourne Guinevere Chardonnay 2021 is a still, non-sparkling white wine from Kent and Sussex, England, and the only wine in the Gusbourne range made without secondary fermentation. It shows a different side of the estate's Chardonnay entirely, built around texture and fruit rather than bubbles.

The nose offers ripe orchard fruit, citrus and a subtle floral lift, with a creamy, textural quality on the palate that its sparkling siblings don't share, and a faint hazelnut character that develops further with time in the glass. Stone fruit and lemon curd carry through the mid-palate, supported by a fine, mineral undertone typical of English Chardonnay grown this far north.

Acidity is bright and keeps the wine fresh despite its richer texture, leading into a clean, citrus-tinged finish.

Its combination of texture and freshness suits roast chicken, creamy pasta or grilled white fish, dishes that can meet its textural weight without a wall of bubbles to contend with.

The 2021 is drinking well right now, with enough freshness in reserve to hold for another year or two if desired.
