Bergström Old Stones Chardonnay (2021)

1500mL / Willamette Valley / USA

The Bergström Old Stones Chardonnay 2021 is a biodynamically farmed Chardonnay from Oregon's Willamette Valley, released here in a 1500mL magnum. It's built on precision and drive rather than overt richness, the kind of Chardonnay that rewards a little patience in the glass.

Lemon curd, white peach and crushed stone sit over a faintly saline, flinty undertone, the biodynamic farming showing through in a wine that feels vibrant and alive rather than heavy-handed. The palate mirrors the nose closely, staying taut and focused through the mid-palate rather than spreading wide.

Acidity is the engine here, threading through a long, chalky finish that never feels broad or blowsy. There's real energy to the texture, more line than weight, with persistence well beyond the first impression.

It's a natural partner for richer seafood — grilled scallops, a butter-sauced sole, or a simple roast chicken with lemon and thyme.

The magnum format is a real asset with a wine like this: the larger volume slows its evolution, so it will age more gracefully than a standard bottle and makes a fine centrepiece for a table sharing more than a glass each.
