When tasted in early November 1999, the wines were tannic, concentrated and powerful, but very well balanced. Now at 20 years after the vintage, the 2000 holds on to its primary fruit whilst really starting to reveal the classic Musar identity, balancing out the characteristic sweet spice and desiccated fruit notes with more evolved elements of leather, tar, tobacco and a hint of game. These complex aromas and flavours are lifted with a fresh lick of acidity that will ensure the wine will continue to age gracefully for years to come.

First made in 2004, the Chateau Palmer Historical XIXth Century Wine is a two-region blend, not a “Bordeaux wine” per AOC regulations. The mix includes 42.5% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the Chateau Palmer estate vineyards. The other 15% is Syrah taken from the Rhone Valley.

Because of the regional and varietal mix, Historical XIXth Century Wine is not labeled as Bordeaux but simply Vin. For the same legal reasons, the name Chateau Palmer, the picture of their chateau does not appear on the front label and the wine is not vintage dated.

After a warm and dry winter, spring 2016 was fresh and exceptionally wet. Slow vegetative development has gradually accelerated. The flowering could thus be done in a homogeneous way, without stress. With a comfortable productive potential, the rather dry summer has been extended in order to offer a nice concentration and a great maturity to this exceptional and unexpected vintage. The providential Indian summer of this year has offered us harvests of rare qualitative precision. Each terroir has been able to express its potential and aromatic complexity.

It offers up a succession of delicate aromas of plums, blackberries, liquorice and earthy notes on the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, silky tannin with well-balanced and excellent length on the finish.
 

The 2008 vintage is one of the great classics. The nose opens up with fresh notes of cedar and menthol combined with red berry aromas. Well-integrated oak lends this wine its delicate roasted notes and spice. After airing, ripe and intense fruits come through and confirm our expectations. The palate is smooth and pleasant with excellent tension. A delight to drink.
