This is our first attempt, so the winemaking will evolve, but the wine has surprised us. It’s pure and fruit driven as you’d expect but somehow there’s a savoury interest. Dark fruited but not heavy in anyway, it’s still got a little Fred Astaire (light on its feet) feel. Frisky but serious. Air is this wine's friend – introduce it to a decanter and it will start unfurling. Peat, red and black berries, a weird but interesting Vegemite kinda umaminess. Firmly structured with chunky, chewy tannin and focused through the finish.

The Malbec produced by Tonic Wines is an impressive wine that is sure to impress. While this variety is most commonly associated with Argentina, this particular wine offers a more refined and intricate take on the grape that is often overlooked in Australia.

Like their Grenache and Mataro wines, the Malbec undergoes a similar winemaking process that results in a polished, vigorous, and sophisticated final product.

McLaren Vale fruit has produced a more powerful wine – less flighty. Red and slightly dark berry fruits, still crunchy, still highly aromatic – amaro-like. The palate is showing some darker fruit profiles, but the texture and the weight is classic Tonic in style: flavour without ‘thickness’, high interest level, tannins lead and fruit follows. A brightness of acid that keeps the finish fresh but allows the fruit to tell the story. Or something like that...
